Escape from Singapore

A couple of weeks ago my son and me noticed that school break was just behind the corner, his father would be on a business trip and his brother in Europe so it would be just the two of us here in Singapore in the middle of the haze and nothing to do outside. The last six weeks in Singapore has been hazy more or less every day due to forests burning in Indonesia - so much that I am getting really annoyed by the haze. It wasn't a difficult decision to book a trip to Cambodia.

This was our first trip together without anyone else and it felt a little bit weird to go but everything went just fine. Already on the way to Cambodia I noticed that people are very friendly when you travel alone with a child (especially men ;))

We landed smoothly to Siem Reap and a driver was waiting us at the airport for taking us to our villa. As soon as we arrived we unpacked our things and went straight to the pool for swim and of course we couldn't resist the call of the pool bar...

After swimming we decided to have dinner in the villa before going to Phare- Cambodian Circus. Circus gives under privileged children an education and possibility to work in the sircus and earn a living.

The evening was great: young athletics and actors performing acrobatics, dance and music and all this for a good cause. We highly recommend this one if you ever go to Siem Reap. :)

We spent one day at the temples in Angkor Wat area which was fine for us. In one day we had time to see all the main temples: Angkor Wat, Ta Promh (Tomb Raider was filmed there) and Bayon. I had booked the tour in advance from Pin Vannak-private toursMr. Ray was our guide and we couldn't have been more satisfied with him. He knew history well, his English was good and he knew all the best places where to take pictures. I really can recommend him. Perhaps I need to get some commission for all my recommendations. ;)

The last day we were just roaming around in the city and relaxing in the pool.

We did some responsible shopping thanks to my son which was of course a good thing. He has learned in the school about child labour, migrant workers, bad work circumstances etc. so we skipped all the cheap market areas. I have to say that I'm proud of my son. He is more clever than me :).

Enjoy the fresh air when you can!

Long time no see

It has been a blog silence for a while. Typical for me :0. I start to do something enthusiastically and then suddenly loose interest. What is wrong with me ;)? Perhaps I was too ambitious. I wrote everyday and finally it was too much for me and of course I have something else which keeps me busy.

Many people have asked about my blog and I have got a lot of positive feedback. I'm so grateful about that :) plus that encourages me to continue. I  will try a new tactic.
  1. I will only write a couple of times per week. Then it's not too much for me and I can still enjoy writing.
  2. I will start to write in English only. I have felt guilty because I stopped translating texts in English. This is my blog and I know I can do whatever I want to but still I feel guilty because I didn't do what I intended to do in the first place. Is this a nice girl's syndrome...
I had my birthday last month and my son promised to buy me a gift when he would get his salary. Today he then came with the present and was happy to tell me that the shop assistant have given him a lot of discount because she had been impressed that my son was such a sweet guy and was buying a gift to his mother. She also told him that she wishes that her son will be as sweet when he grows up.

This really made my day and I just don't mean the gift. Of course the gift was also a bonus for me but I realized I must have done something right :)).

Have a great weekend!
